The 1975 Reveals Album Release Date & Drops New Single 'People'

The 1975 is back and grittier than ever in what I can only describe as a love child between Refused and dare I say Nine Inch Nails (don't @ me).

The band dropped "People," the lead single off its upcoming album, Notes on a Conditional Form, on Thursday (August 22) along with its accompanying video. While frontman Matty Healy has embraced being called emo, "People" is the band's heaviest and most punk song to date — including all the angst and politics we've come to expect from a good punk song.

If you close your eyes and listen to the song you can imagine Healy up on his soapbox screaming the words into a megaphone to enact change amongst this generation. Lyrics in the new track include: Wake up, wake up, wake up/We are appalling and we need to stop just watching s*** in bed/And I know it sounds boring and we like things that are funny/But we need to get this in our fucking heads.

The music video features the band in a box with flashing screens of images and lyrics — plus a long-haired Healy and drummer George Daniel add an unexpected twist; much like the song in general.

Recently, the band has been even more vocal about its stance on climate change and announced sustainable merch. The band also included teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg's famous 2018 speech about the climate crisis in the "The 1975" opening track of Notes on a Conditional Form.

Fans can expect Notes on a Conditional Form on February 21st, 2020. The 1975 will also be heading out on the road this fall.
