British Couple Wins Right To Name Baby Son Lucifer

A British couple went to register their four-month-old son as Lucifer but the local official wouldn't let them, because of obvious reasons. The couple fought back, saying the name means "light bringer" and "morning" in Greek, and they eventually won, despite the official saying "he would never be able to get a job, and that teachers wouldn’t want to teach him."

There are some restrictions on what you can name a baby in the UK, but Lucifer isn't on the list. It is, however, on the list of names banned in New Zealand.

The council made a statement to The Sun saying, “We apologise if they were offended but it is the job of our registrars to advise in these matters as sometimes people are not aware of certain meanings or associations around certain names.”
